Bridging the Gap at Fitness Corner

In the picture, family members of different ages are exercising together at a neighbourhood fitness corner. A grandparent is using the leg-stretching equipment while a child tries the pull-up bar, and a parent is standing nearby to help. They are chatting while exercising rather than each doing their own thing. What I also noticed is that the equipment is designed to be simple and safe enough for both the very young and the elderly to use.

My family goes cycling together along the park connector on Sunday evenings when the weather is good. My father always cycles at the back so that nobody gets left behind, and we usually stop at the same drink stall halfway. My sister is the slowest but she never wants to turn back early, so we adjust our pace for her. It is not really about the exercise for us, it is the one time in the week when we are all doing the same thing.

I feel there are a few ways. Firstly, making exercise social helps a lot, since most young people are far more willing to play a game with friends than to run alone. Secondly, facilities should be near where we live and free to use, because cost and travel put people off quickly. Most importantly, I think families exercising together makes the biggest difference, as children who grow up seeing their parents active are much more likely to stay active themselves.
