Look at the picture. What is the child doing in the shopping mall, and is it safe? Why?

In the picture, a child is riding a scooter inside a busy shopping mall, weaving between shoppers. I do not think this is safe, because the mall is crowded and the child is moving much faster than the people walking around him. Shoppers carrying bags or looking at shop windows may not notice him coming. What I also noticed is that there are elderly people and a small child nearby, who would be seriously hurt if he collided with them.

This reminds me of a time my family went to a shopping centre during the Chinese New Year sale, and it was extremely crowded. I was holding my little sister's hand and someone pushing a large trolley came round a corner quite quickly, so I had to pull her aside. She dropped the toy she was holding and it took us a while to find it. After that, my mother always tells us to walk close to the shop fronts rather than in the middle of the walkway.

Take a clear stand, give a reason, acknowledge the other side, then close.

I feel scooters should not be used inside crowded malls, but a complete ban may be unnecessary if the space allows it. Malls are indoor spaces with blind corners and many elderly shoppers, so the risk of a serious injury is high, and a mall is not a park. However, some open areas or basement corridors during quiet hours might be less dangerous, so the rule could depend on the place and the time. Most importantly, whatever the rule is, it needs to be made clear with signs and gently enforced, because most children are not being naughty on purpose, they simply have not been told.

Common mistakes on this kind of question

Missing what is wrong in the pictureLook for the one detail that shows consideration — or the lack of it.
Judging harshlyAssuming people are lazy or rude sounds less mature than considering why they behaved that way.
General advice with no example"People should be more gracious" needs a real moment from your own life to support it.
Answering in one line"Yes, I would." A full answer needs a reason and an example — aim for three or four sentences.
No reason givenEvery opinion needs a "because". Without it, the answer sounds like a guess.

Parent script — how to run this in 10 minutes

  1. Show the picture. Say nothing for 30 seconds.
  2. Ask Q1 exactly as written. Count to five in your head before you help.
  3. After the answer, ask "why?" once more. That single word usually doubles the answer.
  4. Repeat for the remaining questions.
  5. Finish with one thing that was good and one thing to try next time. Only one of each.
